Workers Compensation Rates

Employers in Utah are required by law to provide workers compensation insurance and may choose from three sources: the Workers Compensation Fund of Utah, a quasi-state agency; a private carrier, or, on approval by the Industrial Commission, self-insurance. Generally, the state fund is said to be able to offer lower rates.

Workers' compensation rates are based on the activity of the business rather than the individual job descriptions. Typically, a computer component manufacturer will see a rate of under $1.30 per $100 of payroll for electric parts assembly, under 43 cents for clerical (computer operators) and under 93 cents for outside sales.

Utah workers compensation rates are from 30 to 35% below the national average, according to the property and casualty actuarial consulting company Actuarial and Technical Solutions of Long Island, N.Y.

For guaranteed rates and up-to-date information, Workers' Compensation Fund urges employers to contact underwriters directly.
