How to Make a Better Verbal Presentation

As more work becomes ‘teamwork’- what you know is less important than how well you communicate it. Without a keen sense of what you want to say and how you want to say it, at minimum you'll leave your audience unimpressed. At worst, you may lose the client and/or the sale.

However, one thing you should never do is script your entire presentation word for word, and gesture for gesture. Here’s why:

don't memorize your presentation Trying to memorize will only make you second guess your own words and you are likely to flub it!
audiences hate being read to If you bring your script to the podium you will be tempted to read it - audiences hate being read to.
scripted presentations sound too formal Scripted presentations sound overly formal and stilted. Definitely notlike an engaging speaker.
Don't read your slides to the audience Do not turn around and read each slide to your audience!
